Microneedling procedure

As aging occurs all the soft tissues of the body loose their natural elasticity, in particular affecting the facial skin. This leads to the development of wrinkles, loose skin, and saggy skin. Microneedling works by causing controlled trauma to the skin by the penetration of multiple very small needles; this trauma causes the skin to activate its self-regenerating process to heal the micro trauma. To heal this area the skin generates new collagen and elastin, these in turn result in improved skin quality reducing wrinkles and improving tone. For this reason microneedling is also called “Natural Collagen Induction Therapy”.

Dr. Rueda performs microneedling treatments in his office based procedure room. Topical anesthetic is applied before the procedure to ensure the discomfort is minimal, in most cases feeling no pain. The process takes anywhere from 15-30 minutes. The results are seen starting a few weeks after the procedure is complete, however, a total of 3-5 treatments is recommended to achieve long lasting results from increased collagen formation. There is bruising for a few days after the procedure, and redness for up to a week in most patients; the redness is very subtle and is similar to a mild sun burn. All of these are easily concealed with makeup which can be used 24 hours the procedure.

RECOVERY AND DOWNTIME

Outpatient procedure. Microneedling is performed in the office procedure room. Topical local anesthetic is used and no anesthesia or sedation is needed. There is some redness after the procedure but it goes away in a few days.
