What can TCA peels correct

FACE AND MOUTH WRINKLES

Aging results in wrinkles in the face and around the mouth. TCA peels are a great solution to soften the wrinkles in these areas. TCA peels can also soften wrinkles present at rest (static wrinkles), something not possible with Botox, Dysport, or Fillers. This is partially due to peels generating an increase in collagen production.

AGING SPOTS IN THE FACE AND HANDS

Sun exposure leads to undesirable aging spots in the body, in particular the face and hands. TCA peels improve, reduce, and sometimes eliminates aging spots in these areas.

ROUGH TEXTURE IN THE SKIN OF THE HANDS AND FACE

As aging ensues the appearance of the outer skin may become rough and uneven. TCA peels remodel the outer and inner skin by promoting collagen production, ultimately resulting in improved texture of the areas treated.

TCA chemical peel procedure

Some weeks before the procedure Dr. Rueda has you begin a skin care regimen that optimizes the health and regeneration of the skin. This regimen also removes some of the superficial skin layers so that the peel can have a deep and lasting results. In some cases, antibiotic is prescribed for a few days before and after the procedure. Dr. Rueda performs his TCA peels in the office procedure room under topical local anesthesia or in the office operating room under twilight sedation. The procedure takes anywhere from 30-90 minutes depending on the areas to be treated. After the procedure is completed ointment is applied to the treated areas until the new skin cells heal, which is usually 1-2 weeks depending on the depth of the peel. There is redness and swelling in the treated area during the time of healing. Once the area is fully healed sun block and makeup can be resumed.

HOW DO CHEMICAL PEELS WORK?

Dr. Rueda prefers to use Trichloro Acetic Acid (TCA) above all others as it has been one of the safest and most studied in the field of Plastic Surgery. It works by exfoliating and removing the cells at the top layer of the skin. This initiates a healing process in which the body replaces the top skin layer with new cells; it also causes the skin to regain some tone and elasticity by stimulating collagen. These combined effects lead to a smoother and younger appearance of skin that is treated.

The two main types of TCA peels are “superficial” and “deep peels”; this refers to the layers of skin that it manages to treat and regenerate. Deep peels are better at treating sun damaged skin, eliminating wrinkles, and improving skin tone. Law requires these “deep peels” to be performed by a licensed doctor like Dr. Rueda.

RECOVERY AND DOWNTIME

Outpatient procedure. TCA peels are performed in the office procedure room. Most patients prefer to have light sedation while the procedure is being performed to avoid discomfort, but other patients prefer to have it under local anesthesia if done in limited areas. Ointment is applied to the face for 5-10 days depending on the depth of the peel.

Most patients return to work in 1-2 weeks. Although they feel physically capable of returning to work, most prefer to allow the swelling and redness to improve before they return to social activities.

The cost of TCA peels varies from patient to patient depending on the surface and areas treated. At Precision, we make sure we provide you with an accurate personalized price that will cover all costs needed for you to obtain a fantastic result.

Common but temporary problems after TCA peels are swelling and redness; these improve after the tissues heal but redness may persist for more days.
